HTC EVO root problems?

So I was bought an HTC EVO by my loving father yesterday from Best Buy during Black Friday (WIN!!!).

Anyways, im trying to root it with the latest version of Unrevoked and it all goes fine until i click on the HBOOT USB option in the bootloader. after that, it simply reboots with the default HTC EVO 4G screen and then the sprint screen, and it vibrates once at the HTC EVO 4G screen. It doesnt give me the choice to install the update (press volume up or down to accept/decline). I noticed in my about phone section that is says my software version is 3.30.651.2. Could that be it? if so, is there another way to root my phone?

I also just had a thought: i have the android SDK installed on my computer along with eclipse, since i thought it was going to program for Android. could those drivers be messing with it?
