It will act like it's supposed to Hehe ... once unchecked, when not transferring data you will see the "3G" "grey out" but don't worry, anytime any program needs data it will automatically kick back on and do it's thing ... then a few seconds later go inactive again. No lag time, no worries, and less battery drain
(i really don't know why it isn't just set this way by default in Android and not have an option to run continuously for no reason???)
