They changed the name SOMEWHAT!!!
It's still WINDOWS... Windows Phone 7.
And they did so due to what you mention in the first part of your statement.
Brand is EVERYTHING.
They could have easily called it the Zune phone and everything would be different and all. But Windows was important and the name remains.
