The situation you describe is similar to that which could happen if you installed the wrong ROM version. The links from this thread (second post and on I think) have the links directly from NRG for the CDMA versions. Just a thought.

I believe I'm in the CDMA section of the forum and I did download a CDMA ROM only from the very list of NRG ROMs given in the 2nd post of this thread mate. If I used a GSM ROM then I'd actually brick my phone I think. However...I think the problem might be because of the 28xxx version (which a few ppl have reported to be bugged). So I'm gonna try out another stable NRG. Let's see...
