PRL and Profile update first. If you run into issues with this, like ooxteme said, back up contacts and emails, but don't back up your settings. If you are importing settings or reg changes from somewhere, this could be contributing to your issue.
Task 29 has become a habit for me so I don't run into the SOD, text, or MMS issues, but other people have success without using it or just using stock. Based on what ooxteme, it's probably more superstition for me to do it every time now, but for me, it's just another option that is out there to look at when working to correct your issue.
