Ok, I got an EVO yesterday and read hundreds of posts here and over at XDA.
First of all, I can't seem to root this thing. I followed
this guide from XDA, but unrevoked3 doesn't work for some reason. I tried after the Android 2.1 downgrade and from 2.2 with no other changes. I get a "triumph" message, but the HBOOT doesn't unlock and there is no recovery image after it completes. I've tried the 3.14 used in the post, and I've tried the newest 3.21 version. What am I doing wrong? I've tried on a Windows 7 PC and a Mac. Same results.
Secondly, I'm looking for the best/easiest way to fully backup my EVO settings and programs. I went ahead and purchased MyBackup Pro at the suggestion of several people here.
After my failures yesterday with rooting, I went back to 2.2 and went to restore everything from MyBackup Pro. First of all, it takes forever. It backed up all 500+ Facebook contacts and all 900+ e-mails. Is this necessary since my e-mail is IMAP and my contacts would be downloaded after I log into Facebook?
It did NOT backup or perhaps restore my Facebook or Twitter log-ins, or my multiple e-mail accounts and their settings. The only things it restored were the contacts, SMS, call log, and applications. It did restore my Sense Scenes, but when I clicked on the custom one I had spent a lot of time making (and did save), all of the pages were blank!!
I've just come from a very good experience with a Touch Pro2 and Energy ROM. I had that thing setup with XDA_UC to full provision the phone after each ROM flash. It was perfect. I'm looking for the same kind of backup/restore here. Does MyBackup Pro do more once the phone is rooted?
I've used Sprite Backup for Windows Mobile, and that was very good. I read that it sucks for Android and the EVO. Is that true or is that better these days?
Any suggestions?
