But removing the soft lock and resorting to the power button does result in accidental switch-on's and mayhem like unintended launching of apps that may follow, like you mentioned. So I was thinking if I could assign double-clicking of the "talk" button or "long press" of the volume button, I could answer the phone easily even while driving.
Is it possible?

i thought even when you have the lock on if the phone rings i can just push the talk button and it will answer... i dont think you need to unlock to answer

I use Slide2UnlockPro and when my phone is asleep and locked if I get a call all I do is slide to answer or ignore. If I had slide to answer disabled (which I believe is possible) I would just press talk to answer. I don't have to unlock first.
