The mechanism is definitely magneticcally driven. There exist a slight magnetic field near the "left" hinge when the keyboard is open. This is unrelated to the speaker which is nearby. There have also been problems with magnetic holsters screwing up the TP2 sliding mechanism/sleep mode. Do you or have you used one like that before?
