I was going to say, it sounds like you're running an old kernel
The newest (downloadable) kernel from the autobuild is
20101011_223921 - try it out... Hopefully that's your issue. This kernel is where they changed the power button behavior.
Also, you have to change the end key functionality in "Spare Parts"
