Odd, no one pointed out to him that 1x is how Sprint handles all voice calls (including text messages). EVDO on the other hand, handles data. Why this occurs is because Sprint is a CDMA network and couldn't handle voice and data services at the same time. Because of this nature, you couldn't, say- surf the web while on a call

This changes when you get 4G. 4G (on sprint uses WiMAX), will handle data with the WiMAX network, while voice calls will be handled simultaneously on the EVDO network (at least I'm about 85% sure this is true)
