Use Sprite Terminator. It's designed as a kill pill for lost phones, but it has a GPS utility that allows you to "ping" the phone (the phone user has no idea this is happening...it's invisible) and get the GPS coordinates back (which then displays on google maps). I used it with my WM phone for a while, and just installed the android version on my Epic. Works very well.
The Terminator app will let you ping the phone to get the last 5 numbers called. Not sure what you can use to see SMS activity though.
