I actually like the Evo with Swype installed. I recently switched my parents over to Sprints EPRP from Verizon, and they ended up getting an Evo and an Epic. So, I have have been lucky enough to spend quite a bit of time on each setting them up for my parents.
I installed Swype on the EVO and loved it. The Epic did seem a tad faster though, but not by much.
