Are you using MGJDroidUtil? Also, did you make sure there aren't two entries for the force cdma? There's two types of force cdma entires, some have htc.hw in front or something like that. Also, you can check your APN list although I haven't had to do that for a while.

Although no phone service would indicate an issue with the startup.txt in relation to the force cdma command.
