I used to love hacking command.com to read a different startup file other than c:\autoexec.bat, usually something like C:\a\autoex.bat (same number of characters, command.com was picky, and then hide that directory). I used to confound the guys at Fry's in the 80's by having the cloned and renamed autoexec.bat copy any changes they tried to make, to itself, but still keep the changes I had made. Long story, but basically it resulted in them having to reload the OS to keep the computer from only displaying a topless photo that they already had on their HD. They couldn't get it to go away, and all the techs would gather around trying.

I could walk up to a computer on display and do it so fast, nobody suspected anything. I used a similar trick on the Mogul's on display in Fry's, using the IR port. Geez, I hate Fry's, and love messing with them.........
