I experimented with some extra alarms here too and found it IS working as one would have expected after all with & without screenlock in place. Screen lights up just fine. Not sure why I saw failures before but I will test my alarms over longer gaps of time to determine if it is consistently working. Appreciate the feedback! This does help me confirm that the HTC notification enhancement module is not needed which was also one of my goals.
