If you can't get the WMDC connect tones, you need to try your device on a different PC, preferably an XP machine, and see if it too has the same problem identifying your device. Make sure WMDC is current (sometime sometimes WMDC loses it's mind and you have to reinstall it even though it's current). The only time I've had trouble with Vista and a current WMDC that was freshly installed is w/ v1.00 bootloaders. If you're still having no success with Vista, find an XP machine w/ AS 4.5 on it. All you're trying to verify is that your phone isn't the problem (which it shouldn't be, given that you get USB connect tones).
