I had the same problem. I tried for over an hour and I never could get my 32-bit XP PC to recognize my phone. Luckily I have a 64-bit laptop that is running Windows 7. That worked like a charm. I know this doesn't help your situation, but maybe someone out there can figure out why this keeps happening. Maybe it has something to do with the 32-bit drivers...

Make sure you try everything....use a different USB port (preferably one on the back that is connected directly to the motherboard), try a new USB cable, and it is imperative that you reboot both the phone and the PC after each failed attempt.
