There seems to be two primary methods.
1.
OC_Auto 4.21 uses Msm7kCpuSpeed, MortScript, and a script to control how the phone clocks. The script also takes care of the SOD issues.
2.
OCT 1.5 is a stand-alone product that constantly monitors how the device is being used and over/under clocks on a sliding scale depending on usage.
Both methods work and have their proponents. There was an earlier method that also used Msm7kCpuSpeed, but that had SOD issues. I don't believe it is popular any more (but it was the first). I am using OC_Auto 4.21 as it came out before OCT 1.5 and it works just fine.
Msm7kCpuSpeed was originally written for the first Touch Pro (I believe) but it works for all Qualcom processors in the same family. Ignore any statements about only working when connected to AC; battery works the same now.
There have been quite a few threads on Over-Clocking, but those are the topics I would suggest for searching. I started on
this thread post #281 that starts on page 29. The previous pages refer to the older/less favorable version I mentioned earlier.
Are you currently using Nav N Go iGO 8 v8.3.2.152657 (Jul 21 2010)? What (if any) are the differences?
