radios affect how your phone communicate with the towers. you can flash the different radios to see if it helps your signal quality.
the unlocked radios are for after you do the sim unlock. they will allow your phone to use gsm carriers in the USA.
to see if your sim unlocked, go to
Settings tab and then All Settings then Personal then Security
