IE sprints rules need to reasonable. My contention is that this is NOT reasonable.
normally market forces will enforce reasonable limits on a company. but market forces DO NOT APPLY normally in this context because they are using OUR AIRWAVES and we have unwillingly (thanks FCC) granted them an effective oligarchy via selling bandwidth and the intrinsic limits of that bandwidth (frequency bands)
thats all.

With all due respect, I still dont see why you are making such a big deal of this. They arent forcing you to spend the extra $10/mnth, its an optional upgrade which allows you to move into better phones. Not only does it unlock you from last years phones, but you also gain any mobile anytime, and telenav.
They are using our airwaves? True, but why dont you try to manufacture a phone that uses your independent band, and power up your own cell site. Not only will you have a very limited service range, but you'll be paying alot more than $30 a month in running costs alone, I guarantee it!
Anyone can argue that plans are cheaper overseas, etc.. but that is not how economy works. Shoot, atleast we dont live in Singapore, where cars costs them twice as much to purchase and own(no, my car is not domestic, and it retails $40K. $80K is not a happy number for me..)
If you want to make a statement, then dont upgrade, and keep your $30/mnth plan. Heck, if you really want to stick it to them, then dont use their service. Perhaps that will force them to lower their costs in the long run.
For the record: AMAT makes owning the 1250 plan silly, and because of their new offering, my sister and her boyfriend have downgraded to the 500min plan, essentially saving them $10/mnth per line once they upgrade to the SERO Plus
PS: if you own the $50/mnth plan and want to downgrade to the SERO $30, call 888-876-8381. They'll fix you up
