yup thats definitely an another interesting way to get to tmail. One thing I noticed is that doing it my way (creating the shortcut to tmail, adding the parameters -SMS or whatnot) is that CHT didn't like it to much and wouldn't load if I set my shortcut as the messaging client. Not a big deal for me though, I have a custom icon for text messaging and I use the CHT notification bar right above it
Unfortunately doing it you way doesn't fix "the problem", but at least this knocks out shortcuts as being a suspect leading to the annoyance in opening messages in a screen that is not fully scrolled down
