Re: First Impressions of the Epic: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly?

Coming from a diamond (anyone remember those?) and I'm not impressed. Yes, the hardware of the phone is badass, but android, as far as I can tell has a few good things with a lot of bad things going for it.

First off, I have to spend half hour to root the phone to be able to do wifi tethering? Seriously, this is the best os? Then, it doesn't come with remote desktop... and finding an app in the market that can actually do remote desktop... a very plug and pray experience. Then there's the ads in most free apps. If this is how much ahead of the curve android is compared to windows mobile, leave me behind. Give me a phone with a keyboard and a 1ghz cpu that runs an outdated version of windows ce and I'll be a happy camper.

I'm tempted to take this thing back, between the ads, and lack of remote desktop ability into work (have yet to get ssh tunnel and remote desktop working at the same time, like I was able to with pocket putty and the stock remote desktop in winmo), it's got 2 strikes against it... 3rd strike may mean looking for an unabused TP2...

Oh yeah, weather app... gotta pay for one with an animation like the sense one. And even then, it doesn't use GPS to figure out where you are. The accuweather clock widget sucks.

On the bright side, the barcode scanner app is cool. I found out my work supplied box of kleenex knockoffs comes in big boxes of 100 for 65 bucks. Not bad, for under a buck, they provide over 100 phone screen wipes...
