Favorite Apps

What are you favorite apps? The ones you use everday or can't go without? Which apps do you bust out to show off your device?

Useful Apps
  • LED Desire Light: Free app, turns the flash led on with varying levels of brightness to use as a flashlight. It is actually quite bright. Also includes a widget for quick on/off.
  • Handcent SMS: Free app, gives you bubble chat history for your sms, features popup notifications and can even speak your sms with 1 click (TTS required, also free). Handy.
  • Gesture Search: Free app, Search contacts, music, apps by drawing the letters to the words that you are looking for, search results are refined with every letter drawn. Option to activate by doing a doubleflip (turning the device over twice)
  • Voice Search: Free, had a bit of a time finding as it wasn't in my market place for some reason.. Search the internet with your voice, also call google contacts. Very accurate voice recognition. Added bonus, doubles as a voice calculator (ex: you say "six times three" and it will give you the answer on the screen..cool!)
Show off Apps
  • Metal Detector: Free. Uses the compass to actually detect ferrous objects. Was having mixed results until I realized I was calibrating it with a steel ring on the hand I was holding it with. Very neat.
  • Google goggles: Free, use this app to take pictures of things. It will then scan them and find places to buy on the internet, reviews, or the company homepage. Also scans thoses weird QR code symbols nd barcodes.
  • Google Maps: Free. Nothing impresses my friends more than searching their address then going into 'street view' mode and showing them a picture of their house. Very neat.
  • Google Skymap: Free, uses the built in accelorometer, compass and gps to give you a map of the night sky that you can move around to indentify stars, planets and constellations.
  • SNESoid: paid app. Lets you play Super Nintendo games on your android device. Nothing beats playing some super mario in your spare time.
What are some of yours?
