not a bad thought, however it might discourage people from using the site if they can't ask questions. It might also get them to just ask it in other threads. Even holding it for moderation for all posts under 5 would be good. That way if the mod deems it not worthy, they can PM a link to an existing thread and warn the user politely.

One post telling people to search and giving a link to the appropriate thread would be sufficient. By making fun of them, they are likely to leave and never contribute. I am not saying what they did was right but hosing them on their first day ain't right either. Be polite people, you were young once. This is a big forum with lots of threads. Sometimes a search brings up what you were looking for on page 2 or 3. Give them a break.
