I would agree that most of the people having problems are not hard-resetting correctly. If you properly hard-reset, none of the data or settings from your previous ROM will be lingering around. Before restoring the extROM, it clears out your ROM. I think a big part of the problem is that the ROM flash utility was obviously made for a device other than the Apache, and gives incorrect directions for hard-resetting. On the Apache, you have to press the reset button with the stylus while holding down the two soft keys. The Flash utility directs you to press the reset button while holding down the power button, which does nothing more than just pressing the reset button (soft reset).
