Pretty sure this has to do with the sound being *ENABLED*, but not fully controlled by the OS yet... remember guys, this is just the first step, its not finished yet!!

Basically, the OS can pump sound to the hardware, but I think the amplification is stuck "ON" (normally, when a sound finishes, the speaker is shut off until the next sound event. When power is being sent to a speaker you will hear static hiss- think guitar amp with nothing plugged in).
This also means that the system volume is fixed at a certain position, I believe (can't change overall system volume yet).
