Re: Possible battery fix from HTC!
Training batteries is a hold over from the NiCad days. It does not apply to Lithium based batteries. Actually, you never want to totally discharge an LiOn or LiPo. Best bet is keep it charged as much as possible and avoid high temperatures.
Read around the site and you will find people getting much battery life by managing the power drain. EVO comes out of the box with "every light in the house" on. A few tricks will show you how to control that.
As for me, I bought the Seidio 3500mAh battery. It is a LiPo rather than LiOn which, along with the greater AmpHr capacity, makes all the difference. I actually had a big fight with them when the battery arrived since it said LiOn on the silk-screen but they assured me it was LiPo inside. Since that sounded like BS to me, I demanded a full refund, including S&H. After some haggling and threats, they acquiesced. While waiting for the RMA, I did some testing and I was able to ascertain it was LiPo.
What is nice is that I ignore battery drain. I am am avid movie watcher. I took my wife shopping today and while she wondered around the shops for hours, I watched the entire Donnie Darko movie. I don't even monitor battery level anymore since I have NEVER gone under 50% between access to charges. I do ride a Harley and have a charger setup in my saddle bag. If you don't mind increasing the thickness of your phone to that of a Mogul and adding the weight of one battery, I recommend it. I still carry mine in my top pocket. With the stock battery, I would leave my desk with my phone, go to a meeting for an hour and when I returned and plugged the phone into the charger, it would be at 67% or worse.
Seidio should pay me for writing this!!
