You should wipe before flashing a new rom.
There is a small program available for download that let's u full root in a few easy clicks. Im on my phone so cant find it now but its on here somewhere.
Contacts are backed up automatically by Google so when u go through the setup process your contacts should be there right away. You can check it by signing onto gmail and going to contacts.
You can flash back to an earlier or stock rom at anytime if you want to.
I'm not good with the kernal stuff so ill leave that to the pros.
You can flash new radios just like u flash new roms. Prl is gonna be the same until Google releases the source code or some such thing.
This is all coming from an amateur so I might not be 100% on some things so people feel free to correct me if im wrong
