HTC never meant for the "manual method" to be downloading the file from their servers, to your PC, etc though. They meant to manually request the phone to check for software updates, versus them pushing the update notice to your phone.

So what you are saying is, they accidentally informed websites days in advance that there would be a link to download FROYO hosted on their website days before the release. News sites then informed us that we would have a manual method days in advance of the actual "push". Then after the link went live ( and I guess that they realized they had to tweak one more thing, or finished something early ) they decide to announce that it is not a final version.
If the release was not intended, why were all major sites aware that there would be a manual download prior to the link even going live? Engadget reported days before the link went live ( 1 or 2 days ) that there would be a manual download option as per HTC. Sounds like HTC goofed, not the news sites.
