The third time the screen powered up it stayed on and worked for 2 days with zero problems. After that it went off again so I took it back apart several times trying to remedy the problem. I have been able to get it to flicker here and there but that is about it.

Im assuming there must be a short somewhere. I know this is something hard to diagnose without more information but what *could* cause this is what I am asking. Any help/ suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
i'm surprised you got it workin at all after a soda was spilled all over it. your problem could be screen or main board. your warranty is void and your water stickers are probably flagged, so i dont know what else you can do, besides what darren suggested... so, good luck.
