It might also be the ROM,
most people are using Energy ROMs and getting everything to work fine.
Energy with a 2.10.xx radio seems to be successful every time. I'm not sure what NRG is doing that some others aren't. Miri ROMs also supposedly work.
My current favorite build is Darkstone's Desire V5, the Froyo builds are amazing but freeze sometimes.
