I would also say the phone is pretty rugged. I must've dropped mine like 3 dozen times on tile/concrete/asphalt. Still works like it would outta the box, albeit with some scratches. I never mentioned data plan, so there's nothing I said there to agree or disagree with.
I did mention battery life, which sounds like you do agree with.
WOW - are you a lucky person, dropping it that many times and no screen damage!
I'll state my opinion one last time, then will be happy to discuss the software only. I would not recommend using Garmin XT on a phone under the following conditions:
- off-road, hiking, or other locations where getting lost could be serious, because
-- a. The TP2 is relatively fragile compared to a standalone unit
-- b. Standalone units have lower and more predictable battery consumption and it's easy to take a handful of rechargeable AA's.
