There are plenty of backup choices. Of course, none so far has worked on scheduling at all:

Titanium Backup (needs root and Busybox, but it lets you download it)
Sprite Backup ($4.99), scheduling is broken despite what Sprite says

Have you searched the market for backup?

I reread what you're looking for, is it that you haven't rooted because you haven't or don't want to? The choices and ability to do things with the device go up once you root.

Just a suggestion.
