More info on the pim.vol and syncing your contacts w/3.3
Beware of restoring your contacts,
You need to use activesync. Your Pim.vol file will not import successfully (Symtoms include flashing back and forth from today screen to contacts). This has to due with the pim.vol format. It was changed from 3.2 and lower. Anything with 3.3 you will run into this issue. You may lose voicemail speeddial setting on #1 as well. If you import from outlook via activesync they will import just fine and VM on 1 will survive. All your other speed dials will not be as lucky. Once this is complete you need can successfully push contacts over exchange and no ill side effects with the contacts or speed dials. Bad news is that you lose the speeddials in the end.
A side note, the contacts backup program at xda forums causes the same issues. Well not exactly but the speeddials import and have names but are blank numbers. Just re-enter them from scratch. The nice thing about syncing over active sync is that you can import those holidays that the free exchange mail servers don't implement.
This was experienced on the XV6700. Since this is an issue with the pim.vol format in 3.3+, I would imagine this may pop up more than a few times for our members as well as the other communities.
If anyone knows of a patcher for the pim.vol file or a utility that will convert its compliance to 3.3+ please let us all know.
eyeballz
Note - any users going from an official 2.2 rom or possibly lower will get the flashing contacts if you dont hard reset as this is just a CE image and it doesnt not erase your apps. I noticed resco file ex did the same thing as well. Flashes back to the today screen.
Still there is the pim.vol issue as well as exchange. REMEMBER - Activesync First!!!!
Then return to the wonderful world of exchange PUSH!
