Exclamation Trouble rooting... I know, I know. Not again!

Alright, hello all... This is only my second post, but my millionth time visiting this amazing site. I have just recently gotten the Evo. It's amazing. BUT recently I turned my phone back on, and it opened straight to the Navigation app. Every time I press the home button, it opens the Navigation app. When I set that app to not "open automatically" it doesn't open, but the home button loses its functionality. When pressed it just moves the screen slightly to the side, as if it's going to do something. But it doesn't. Also, when i'm on the homescreen, it doesn't do the whole zoom out thing (to choose a slide). I have not yet downloaded the OTA update. (actually I did, and was able to use the RUU to rollback to the orginal). A few other things that could be related to this... when I answer a phone call, it automatically goes to speaker. When I plug in the USB cord it automatically turns on USB debugging (even after I disable it). I have seen one other post about "dock mode", but I never enabled that, as I don't even know where that is... And I never even purchased the dock anyway! The phone still charges fine, and is sporadic if trying to connect to HTC Sync... 90% of the time it doesn't connect. I get lucky sometimes and it does. I tried rebooting. Erasing all user data, etc. But no success. I have been trying to flash a new ROM, but SimpleRoot won't work. When it reboots the phone to go to bootloader, the phone just stays off... It never turns on. I tried unrEVOked, but the same effect... It never reboots to the bootloader. And when I do it manually, it checks for update.zip and then just sits there. Never asks to update, nothing... Any ideas? Sorry, it's a lot, but I hope I explained the situation thoroughly. I'm sure at least a few of you Geeks can help out a fellow EVO owner. It's my first Android phone, so be easy...
