HTC models seem to be last on the list to upgrade to Android 2.2. Eric Lin, HTC's global
PR and online community manager said, ""It takes time to port all of our applications over to Froyo and then make sure that it is running well on each of our devices," he said, "That’s not like a one week kind of project. We need to make sure that our applications are taking advantage of the Froyo features. To make sure that they’re all running properly on the OS now that it’s a new version. And then to make sure that it's running on our hardware as well as we expect". The executive went on to add that "the updates are going quicker than expected" and he doesn't expect it to take the 6 or 7 month period of time that it took to go from Android 1.5 to 2.1 because the change is "less severe". He added, "Switching from 2.1 to 2.2, they made a lot of tweaks, but they didn’t make any gigantic changes, so it should be a much swifter process". As for guessing when Froyo might be on all eligible HTC handsets, he says that HTC should be complete with the 2.2 upgrade before Christmas this year. As for Android 3.0, Gingerbread, Lin says at first that he wouldn't venture a guess, and then says that it might launch in Q1 of 2011.
