Re: Get your bill today? yikes

Sprint charges you a month in advance for service. If you make a plan change, add a phone, create an account, etc. etc. you will receive proration. Why? Because they had not billed you for your new plan on the last bill, or if you are a new customer, because you didn't get a bill last month. I will write out a couple of examples that hopefully help clear this up. It is confusing, trust me, it took me a long time to fully understand how to explain it.

Example for new customer: Customer starts service on the 20th day of their created bill cycle. Their plan normally costs $60. Your first bill will have $60 in charges for next month's bill PLUS proration for the 10 days left in the first bill cycle.

The original plan of $60 would be divided by 30(days in a bill cycle) to get a cost per day of $2. Then multiply $2 by 10(days remaining in original bill cycle) for a cost of $20.

Next month's bill would be $60 for next month's service plus $20 to cover the 10 days left in the prior billing cycle for a total of $80 (before tax and fees).

Example for existing customer: Customer changes plan from $30 to $60 on the 15th day of their bill cycle. On their next bill they will receive $60 in charges for next month's service PLUS the price difference for the previous months plan change based upon how many days were left in the billing cycle. In this case the original plan of $30 would be divided by 30(days in the bill cycle) for a cost of $1 per day. Then multiply that number by 15 since there was 15 days left in the bill cycle.

Now take the $60/30(days in the bill cycle) for a cost of $2 per day for the new plan. Multiply by 15 again for a total of $30. So Sprint is going to subtract the $15 you paid towards your old plan from the $30 for the new plan.

Next month's bill would have $60 for next's month service plus $15 dollars proration to cover price difference from last month's bill for a grand total of $75. (Obviously before tax!)
