I am also not an android expert, but I can tell you that I have noticed a considerable difference in battery life with ATK. I went 1 week without ATK on a custom rom and am now on day 2 with it back on my phone. I was down to 20% by 3:00pm without it. With it I can easily run until 9:00pm with much heavier use. I was using the phone a lot more with it, just to see how long the phone would last, before having to recharge.
On a side note, I usually take my phone from the charger at about 8:00am!
