Sprint probably has no choice but to switch to LTE just because the phone manufacturers aren’t going to waste R&D on WiMAX for a little carrier like Sprint when the rest of the world is on LTE. Since the big two (ATT and Verizon) on switching to LTE, you can pretty much guarantee LTE will be the standard for the USA.

Mark my words, once VZW goes fully LTE say around 2011 or 2012, the iphone contract with ATT will have ended and that is when you’ll see the iPhone LTE being sold by all carriers here including T-Mobile and Sprint.
