I don't really want to start a big debate, but there is another side of the question. While it may be good to completely discharge the battery a couple of times (when new) in order to properly calibrate ... lithium ion batteries do not respond well to deep discharges. They do much better with lots of mini-charges. Of course, individual mileage may vary.
