I think it's because I uninstalled some of the stock apps (after rooting I just deleted the stuff I found useless that I was tired of seeing run in the background)...the update must be trying to update one or more of those apps, not finding them, and failing. I bet if the phone was just rooted, and then left alone, that this would install.
