I'm not usually the one to ask stupid questions, but there's no easy way to reskin widgets? Correct?

Because I'm getting sick of looking at the default HTC Messenger and Mail widgets on my home screen. Those and Task Panels "Kill All" widget.

The only thing I can do is extract the apk, edit the pngs and then resign it, am I right?
Now the extraction processes is beyond me and I can't find anyone who has customized these widgets at all.

I was looking at BetterCut's make your own feature and it's so beyond me. I understand it, but to even get some of the simplest activities to be achieved is tons of research. I've gone through some of the SDK wiki and gathered info but it's a lot of work!
