All the "G" setting does is allow it to connect to b/g routers, which it should have done already anyway - it does NOT make it have an 802.11g radio

At any rate, mine connected to my b/g router just fine before and after - my router was set to mixed mode, I suppose if you have a router that is in "g only" mode this would let you connect.
