I personally switched over to the iphone because I got burned out of the constant rom changes and almost daily resets with WM phones.
I will soon be moving to the HTC Evo 4G on August 1st from my Touch Pro 2. Windows Mobile has it's own set of users...Business users...it's easy for them to transfer calander and other stuff via their home PC to the Phone and vis versa. I like the interface and the ability to be able to just plug in the USB and transfer stuff from my computer...but that's as far as this phone goes for me. It lacks any Social Networking apps worth while...WM is clunky and unresponsive. The overall feel to me is that it's distant. I like to be able to do certian things with my phone...access this, acess that.

Android on the other hand has a lot to offer. Speech to Text, Search by speech...multiple desktop screens, Tons of apps etc. When I first saw Android I was very impressed. It gave me a sense of "Hey, I can do things with this OS". I don't know how to explain it really..it's one of those things you just feel. Android also has a decent/good looking GUI layout. Apps and display Icons are clean and pleasant to look at.

Resetting shouldn't really be a issue with Android..maybe once and awhile..but nothing like WM phones. I also don't believe I will have any regrets moving to the Evo. I'm a tall guy with big hands and I've always been looking for a phone that fits them...with 4.3inchs of screen and the keyboard actually being decently sized...I don't forsee any issue or regrets.

I never messed with Custom ROMs or cab files to help WM...I left it plain factory..
