Well, ya futz around long enough ya occasionally answer ur own question
With the use of Tweak2K2 (best $12.50 app IMO) you can assign files to the soft buttons, so I assigned the .XLS file (rather than the EXCEL program) to the button, and voila'....opens THAT file in excel.
No way to open in Full Screen mode yet
, but this is a HUGE help.
