this may also be for other apps that use a location or gps update running in the background to those who are constantly changing area - like navigation OR another program that uses gps and like the android book says - apps are not always closed - they are doormate in the background which is why they pop up to "do their maintence"

I'm sort of confused about your post, sorry. Mine was randomly rebooting whether I had GPS on or not. It would just be sitting there and bam, reboot. Or I could be using it and bam, reboot. My GPS does not seem to be an issue at all. It seems to be happening for different reasons for each of us. Unless there is some hidden thing that we all have in common and no one has figured out yet. This is all very strange.
