Yes I have restarted my computer after the new installation and Yes I have rebooted my phone many times...so I know its not that....I'm stuck!! and its pissing me off..........however...Wat I will do is try 2 do this on my wife laptop since she has Vista....and see if it works...bcuz she has the Hero...So and as far as I know...all her contacts saves to her laptop...
Also on another note....how do I get to save my contacts to my Google account from my phone when I transfer them from another phone via blue tooth?....when I do it that way it saves it to the phone and doesn't give me the option to change to Google.....or at least I didn't see it....I know its under "Detail"...but how do I get to it? any suggestions?

HTC Sync doesn't matter. If you watch any of the videos, it shows you that HTC Sync doesn't matter.
What matters is the USB debugging. As long as usb debugging is on, you can run all the commands in the instructions.
In fact, if it's easier, connect the phone using Charge Only. As long as you can see the "USB debugging connected" message in your notifications, you're good to go.
Re: moving contacts to google.
I don't know how
not to move them. I just created a contact on my phone and it should up on the pc in my Gmail contacts in about 20secs.
I don't know if it's different when you transfer them from another source, but for me they sync instantly.
