The way BTP works is that the phone is sent to service for about a month. If the service center determines that the damage to the unit is too much (to the point that labor + parts exceeds the value of the phone), then a in-store replacement is authorized and you get a new phone. Since BTP is a monthly paid service (instead of a one-time charge), it carries over to the new device unless you decide to cancel.
BBM can arrange a loaner for you provided that you are willing to pay deposit on it and BBM managers
might make an exception for you and exchange the phone altogether in store but this rarely happens, especially if the device has never gone to service before.
