Problem solved on my own.
I called the update number of my provider ( *228 then press SEND ). System said if an update was available it would take 50 seconds...update finished. Hung up... pressed my power button and it went into standby like it was supposed to and it fixed my EVDO connection too

I don't know why the shipped ROM wouldn't be setup for standby mode.
