Re: Light Leakage.. Glass Lifting

i think this subject needs its own thread and proper title here on the boards..
heres what i had to say on androidcentral.
If someone wants to repair it themselves i would highly recommend doing research on a proper glue to use.
Some sealants/silicones wont stick to glass unless its for aquarium glass. Some glues cant tolerate heat and cold shifts, causing them to weaken. Some glues like superglue will cause cloudiness and will just chip or scratch off depending on what type of glass this is... Gorilla glue will cause a mess and bubbles up/expands making the screen rise up more. Epoxy will be a good bet, BUT it needs to be able to come off just in case your phone needs a repair.

Mine has a very very tiny bit of light creeping through. Only noticable if look for it in the dark with a magnifying glass. Goes away when the home button corner is pressed down. In light i can see it rising up a bit on that corner only. Im not going to tamper or press on it because it could cause more glue separation.

This has to be a case of heat and cold making the glue weak. Htc has to use a pliable but strong silicone glue for repair shops to easily take apart. Using superglue will def ruin your warrenty and cloud the screen, and no telling what else.

i'll be researching adhesive glues/sealants/caulks/silicones/tape for industrial quality, temperature sustainability, waterproofing, and hold ability. Just in case mine gets worse and i get impatient.

right now i htc is probably looking into the problem and will have a fix on their production lines by the end of the week, BUT all past shipments are already out and on shelves... So asking for a replacement will yeild the same problem.. So i figure in a couple weeks proper batches will be out and ready for exchange.

I guess if someone is impatient and their problem is really bad then an tear-down re-adhesive procedure would benefit. I recommend building a small cleanbox. After you take that screen off and put it back on you'll see more dust than ever regardless of how well you think you had it cleaned.
taking a look at this pic, you can clearly see a lacking of glue tape on that bottom corner.
and you can see how the glue tape doesnt adhere well to both pieces, when you pry it apart only one half of the phone gets a good portion of the tape left over. That means whatever glue tape theyre using isnt bonding well to the plastics/glass. Then again it could be purposeful for repair shops ease of dismantling.
